Taskbar Stops Autohiding after a bit

Recommended Posts

after I have been working for a bit, my Taskbar stops the autohide feature

and sits over my workspace. I have searched several times for this in these

pages but have had no luck finding any information on it.

I am runnig Windows XP professional, updates are current, but I've been

having this issue off and on for a while, its just getting really annoying

so I thought I would ask for help with it.

Here is the solution: in Taskbar properties, you have to check "Autohide"

and also "Keep Taskbar always on top". The latter check is counterintuitive

but it works.

Customize Auto Hide Taskbar Settings (Line 190)

Re: Taskbar Stops Autohiding after a bit

Actually they both are checked, I find sometimes if I uncheck them both,

apply and then re-check them both that it works for a bit again. but usually

I end up having to shutdown and restart to clear it for a bit.

I have noticed though, that it seems to happen more frequently when I have

any of the Office 2000 apps running, I use Word a lot so this shows up with

that, but when I was messing with Winamp, it started to work for a bit again,

kind of weird, Does the Office apps load a GUI add on that might mess with

this ?

Why counter intuitive? It makes more sense to me.

I have the same problem from time to time and having both checked seems to

make no difference.

I have a feeling there is some process that causes the taskbar to un-hide

and some how locks it there - not to overload you with technical jargon ;-)

I need to re-apply the hide setting to get it to work again, (short of

restarting).
