Re: clearing internet history

Take a look at CCleaner as a tool to remove Internet history info, cookies,

temp files, auto complete and other junk.

In the 'Windows' tab listing check the item types you want deleted.

Also available is customization, see Options/Custom to add any

other/additional folders you want files deleted from.

Re: clearing internet history

Try searching on the web site's name (example: http://www.myweb.com), enter

'*myweb*' in the search box (without the quotes).

Search files/folders and registry.

Re: clearing internet history

Kelly,

I see you are copying registry keys that other users & I have supplied in this

newsgroup to expand your minimal knowledge

Secondly:

C\Docs & Settings... I know many users who have D:\Docs & Settings... No mention

in your reply about the drive letter

Thirdly,

You haven't told the user how to get into the registry & which keys to delete in

the right pane

You also forgot to tell the user if in the OpenSaveMRU for the Common Dialog Box

Control if he/she has to delete the STRING/DWORD values or both

The recent file list can be cleaned via a shortcut. Did you know that? NO of

course you never

What about [Drive Letter]\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local

Settings\Temporary Internet Files\content.IE5? There arte subdirectories with

cached files too

The users original post asked about the TypedUrls... List. So, in your reply of

cleaning the Temp files is totally wrong

Talking of Temp files you can use START | RUN | Type %temp% & press ENTER to get

there. Plus you never told the OP about this directory... is hidden & how to

unhide it. Also, what about the [Drive Letter]\Windows\Temp directory? Maybe you

forgot that too

From your reply about the RunMRU... you missed out StreamMRU too, Doc Find Spec

MRU ('one' of the 'find' files... registry keys)

Maybe you should go to the Windows 2000 Resource Kit & brush up on your registry

skills as they are terribly lacking:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/w2rkbook/regentry.mspx?mfr=true

Also, Internet Explorer 7 has a different utility to clean files. You have

replied to IE6 & not for IE 7.

Re: clearing internet history

Did what you just explained: found similar issue. Located the registry key

as:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

You should find a number of entries like: url1, url10, url11, .... and so

on.

Search here and you should find it.

LOL! Newbie Coder telling Kelly she has "minimal knowledge" of the

registry! I love it! It's like a 9-year-old telling Albert Einstein

he has "minimal knowledge" of physics!

Re: clearing internet history

Try this, it worked for me:

1) Open Internet Explorer

2) In the Menu Bar select: View/Explorer Bar/History

(Ctrl+h)

3) In the History Window click on the Search icon option.

4) In the Search for field enter that web site entry that you have not been

able to delete.

5) Click on the Search Now button.

6) After the search has finished you should see a list of web sites (note

that they may not exactly match what you entered in the Search for box).

7) Right click on each entry and select the Delete option.

8) Close IE

9) Open Regedit and search on that URL name.

10) Delete all the registry entries you find.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

You should find a number of entries like: url1, url10, url11, .... and so

on.

continue search the entire registry and delete as required (I only found two

locations in the registry)

11) Reopen IE. You should no longer have that ugly URL in the list.

Ken,

Kelly started with XP - that's not long ago at all

All Kelly's registry fixes are all ove the Internet, Registry Guides from

Windows 2000 Resource Kit...

And if you knew much Ken you'd know that most of the registry tweaks were

available in Windows 2000 & some date to Windows 95, but Kelly wouldn't know

that as its 7 years before her time

I don't know when Kelly started, nor do I care. I do know that she

knows a lot, and much more than you do.

How much somebody knows has very little to do with how many years

experience he or she has. I've seen *many* people with so-called 20

years experience who in reality had one year of experience repeated 20

times.

Back years ago I used to fix PCs in Princeton, NJ. I was lucky enough to

fix a Packard Bell. OMG. On one of the old Albert Einstein desks. I

found it really weird that there was an old Packard Bell I had to fix.

But, the experience I will always remember, as the current owner of the

desk and house used to have Albert over for dinner and talk. Again,

Albert never used a PC, but it was sort of time travel to work on the

same desk he used to use on weekends when he went for dinner at his

buddies house. I feel really lucky at least to sit in the same chair and

work on the same desk that he worked on...

Nope, he died many years before they were invented.

It must have been a *wonderful* feeling. I envy you that experience!

Yes I know that he died before the Packard Bell was used. It was just a

glory to work on the same desk Albert used to work on. At the time, the

current owner of the house/desk where Albert worked had added a PC to

his tools. Again, it was a glory to work at the same desk that Albert

used when visiting one of his best buddies.

Re: clearing internet history

Hi,

When you ran CCleaner, did you check the "Delete index.dat files" box? Try

that.

Or download and install IEHistory View from

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/iehv.html IEHistory View seems to list the

index.dat file, not just the History folder. If the URL is listed, you

should be able to delete it.

Hope this helps,

Don
