Recently removed malware?

Unable to Log On To Windows XP After Removing wsaupdater.exe

http://www.lavasofthelp.com/articles/v6/04/06/0901.html

You cannot log on to Windows XP after you remove Wsaupdater.exe

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892893/en-us

If that doesn't help see this:

A User Logon Request Is Rejected Without Any Messages

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=313322

Editing the Registry for "other" Users

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_adv_reg_editing.htm

Then:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

In the right pane under Userinit, Change the key to read:

C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe,

Or download and run the reg file on line 263 (right hand side)

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Or:

Place your XP CD in and navigate to the Recovery Console.

Change the C:\Windows prompt to: C:\Windows\System32 and copy userinit.exe

to wsaupdater.exe

Re: keep logging off

This condition is fairly well known and is easy to fix

if the machine can be reached via a network, and

much harder if it is a stand-alone machine.
