Guest dorothy Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 I choose update and get the list. I choose to download. It starts to download then a window pops up that says updates failed to download. I tried turning off the firewall but that did not make any difference. I have XP home, SP2, a dial-up connection to internet which means the downloads should take hours so I know nothing has come in.

What update is not working, you know update yada yada failed to install. (that would really help) Clark
Guest dorothy Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Re: can't download security updates I can't download any thing. There is no specific error message, it just says it didn't download. I have never been able to get updates since I upgraded to XP about 6 mos ago. Going directly to the microsoft site doesn't help. It says I need some tool to download, but that won't work either, same thing. I did get something initially, awhile back, but they were incomplete. Thanks for replying. Try a repair install. If that doesnt' help you may have to do a format and clean install. Take a backup of course. -- Top 10 Conservative Idiots: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/top10
