Guest Dan Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 My laptop goes into standby when I close the lid, so I want to change the power options. When I click on Power Options, I get the following: An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\powercfg.cpl",Power Options" When I go to this directory, the other *.cpl commands work (like accessibility and add and remove programs). This is on a ThinkPad T42. Any ideas?
Guest ernie Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Re: Power Options does not run -- get RUNDLL error You could try Expanding a fresh copy of powercfg.cpl from your installation CD into C:\WINDOWS\system32 using MSConfig. Log on as an administrator and Start>Run "msconfig" without the quotes. On the general tab click the Expand button and put in the required fields, probably best to browse to the source folder after putting in the CD. HTH, ern.
