Guest R. McCarty Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Re: internet connection problem The details you list are separate from having an active internet connection. The Wireless icon is simply indicating the Radio signal from your access point is good and properly connected. You didn't mention what Network hardware you have, A single modem/router combination or two separate units ( Modem/Router). Most equipment has a Web interface you can log into to configure settings and view status. The status page will show your Internet IP, Gateway and DNS server(s). One test for Internet connectivity is to open a command prompt window and use the IPConfig command. Click Start, Run (type) Cmd [Enter] >Ipconfig [Enter] If the returned IP address begins with 169.x.x.x then your PC's Network card is not being configured properly. Most access point equipment uses DHCP ( Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol ) to set your NIC's settings. Basically to test Internet, You have to: 1.) Verify a correct IP address and Gateway, DNS is set. 2.) Verify the NIC can communicate with the Access Point 3.) Verify traffic from your PC to your ISP's Gateway 4.) Verify traffic from your PC, thru the ISP to the public Internet ( using a site such as DSLReports.Com w/ a Ping Command ) "dessie" <dessie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:010F7707-4EF0-4367-8B9E-A81AC57501CF@microsoft.com... > Every time I try to connect to the internet my home page or any other page > wont open.
