Guest Ron Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 I am trying to rename a server 2003 domain. I get the following error when running rendom /list: The behavior version of this forest has not been set to 2 or greater: the server is unwilling to process the request. :8245 Any ideas ?
Guest Glenn Clark Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Re: Domain rename Can you giev us some more info on your setup What are you trying to rename: domain or server name is it a single server domain Glenn "Ron" <Ron@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2EE12FEA-8106-4267-858E-45CE2067A83E@microsoft.com... >I am trying to rename a server 2003 domain. Guest Ron Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Re: Domain rename Whoever originally configured the domain called it domain.com. I need to change it to domain.local as the internal clients cannot access the website "domain.com" which is served fro an external web server; DNS can't resolve the name, the clients receive "Page cannot be displayed". This is a single server running Server2003 Ent, SP2. There are about 30 workstations. The end goal is to have the clients able to access their website. Thanks for the reply "Glenn Clark" wrote: > Can you giev us some more info on your setup > > What are you trying to rename: domain or server name > is it a single server domain > > Glenn > > "Ron" <Ron@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:2EE12FEA-8106-4267-858E-45CE2067A83E@microsoft.com... > >I am trying to rename a server 2003 domain. Guest Glenn Clark Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Re: Domain rename It might be easier just to create a record in the dns to point to the website. Personally the best way is to dc promo back rename and then dcpromo it back up again but this would mean re doing all the clients. This may start to point you in the right direction http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb405948.aspx Glenn "Ron" <Ron@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F3146B08-7023-49D7-8EFD-CE7D855BC525@microsoft.com... > Whoever originally configured the domain called it domain.com. Why not just add a DNS entry (www) in domain.com which points to the IP of the external website? There are potentially other reasons to rename the domain, but if this is the only real reason then that's probably not worth the effort. -bws
Guest Ron Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Re: Domain rename I would like to avoid recorfiguring AD. How and what would the DNS record be entered? I don't have a static IP for the web site. Really appreciate your comments! "Glenn Clark" wrote: > It might be easier just to create a record in the dns to point to the > website. Guest WorkingHard Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Re: Domain rename It's a bit messy ... idea: configure your client PC's/Server's internet browser with a mandatory proxuyserver (GPO, Scripted) , have that proxy server use an external DNS (that of your ISP) for name resolution. Cheers "Glenn Clark" <glenn.clark@NOSPAM.btinternet.com> wrote in message news:%23HI5wnozHHA.1208@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Could be difficult if you don't have a static ip address for a website. > Where is this site hosted if its not got a static address > > Glenn > > "Brian Spolarich" <briansp@gmail.com> wrote in message > news:OC$1CeVzHHA.600@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> >> "Ron" <Ron@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:F3146B08-7023-49D7-8EFD-CE7D855BC525@microsoft.com... >>> The end goal is to have the clients able to access their website. >> >> Why not just add a DNS entry (www) in domain.com which points to the IP >> of the external website? >> >> There are potentially other reasons to rename the domain, but if this is >> the only real reason then that's probably not worth the effort. >> >> -bws >> > >
Guest WorkingHard Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Re: Domain rename Or ... fork out for a static IP. Changing domain name for this is shooting a fly with a nuclear warhead :-) "Glenn Clark" <glenn.clark@NOSPAM.btinternet.com> wrote in message news:%23HI5wnozHHA.1208@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> >> -bws >> > >
