Guest steve7132@yahoo.com Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 RE: Question about "cannot initialize application "message First of all, are you trying to open software or a file of a video in a certain format... if you right click on the file, what is the file type? If it is softwarem, what is the name of the software? "Grandma Carol" wrote: > Can anyone tell me what the following message mean? Guest Grandma Carol Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 RE: Question about "cannot initialize application "message It's the software icon on my desktop Ulead Video Studio 8. I've been using this software for 2-3 years without any problems until now. I have tried a complete "restore" a couple of times, and even removed and reloaded the software. Any ideas? Thanks "steve7132@yahoo.com" wrote: > First of all, are you trying to open software or a file of a video in a > certain format... > > if you right click on the file, what is the file type? > > If it is softwarem, what is the name of the software? > > "Grandma Carol" wrote: > > > Can anyone tell me what the following message mean? Guest steve7132@yahoo.com Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 RE: Question about "cannot initialize application "message Unfortunately, the company no-longer supports this program...therefore, You can't even get an up-date.. http://www.ulead.com/tech/phasedout.htm However, if you right click on the icon, then go to the bottom, choose properties, click on the the button that says find target...and see where that leads to... and get back here and report, it may be that it is not coinciding with the .exe file to open the program...Also, has your screen resolution settings changed recently, I believe you have to have it set to a certain height and width for the program to work properly "Grandma Carol" wrote: > It's the software icon on my desktop Ulead Video Studio 8. > I've been using this software for 2-3 years without any problems until now. > I have tried a complete "restore" a couple of times, and even removed and > reloaded the software. Guest steve7132@yahoo.com Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 RE: Question about "cannot initialize application "message Also, what was the other reason for doing several restores..., that could be a clue... Guest Grandma Carol Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 RE: Question about "cannot initialize application "message I did as you said and clicked on properties. It opens up the Ulead list of the following: applications, application extensions, application configuration settings, Icon, and Ulead file folders including: oft_plug, Bitmap,Cross Sell,Device, Editing style, fio,Neptune_profile, Player,ppp,Samples,Templates,vtf_plug,vio, WM Profile, etc. I also changed the screen resolution as you suggested from 1024X768 to 1280X1024, I rebooted and still get the message when I try to open my video software. The reason I had to restore earlier this month was because I was getting an error message as follows: "Divice driver installed on your computer caused the Windows operating system to stop unexpectedly." and "Some component of Active Shield are either missing or might not have been installed properly." After I did the restore, I was able to use the software for a few days, then I started getting the "Cannot initialize application" message. I really applicate all your responses and continued support Steve, Thank you so much!! Guest steve7132@yahoo.com Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 RE: Question about "cannot initialize application "message OK, here we go again, On the Icon on your desktop, for the program you say you are getting the error message... Go to it and right click it, double click the properties tab at the bottom...andd then click the button that says find target... It should open a window with the .exe file highlighted, if not tell me what is highlighted...because the icon may not be pointing to the correct function to start the program. being that you re-installed the op sys, something may have been moved or damaged, meaning a file may have gotten corrupted to start this... If you have the software for this program, you might want to un-install the program...and possibly try to re-install..
Guest Grandma Carol Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 RE: Question about "cannot initialize application "message Thanks Steve for being so patient. I did what you said again and the blue highlight is: vs studio 1308kb Appilcation. I did uninstall and reinstall once but I will do it again if you think I should. G. Guest steve7132@yahoo.com Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 RE: Question about "cannot initialize application "message I am with you, lost at this point, I suggest you re-post the question again, being that it is a week old already, you might have better luck with some of the more knowledgable people...I'm just a novice... You might have to do some things to the registry...But I'm not the one to tell you how...Sorry I couldn't be of more help.. "Grandma Carol" wrote: > Thanks Steve for being so patient. Guest Grandma Carol Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 RE: Question about "cannot initialize application "message Thanks for all your help Steve, and thanks for sticking with me on this. I purchased the new version of Ulead Video Studio, and so I hope this will solve my problem.
