Guest BigAl.NZ@gmail.com Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Hi Guys, There is a simple solution to this i am sure. There is a network with about 5 PC's on it connected to a router. No Domain controller etc. Most of the PC's are set to workgroup MSHOME, and one PC which acts as a file server is on WORKGROUP. All the PC's can access the share on the file server called \ \p4server. The full name of the share is \\p4server\Data. Now for some reason we have added a laptop to the network, and cant access the share. I can ping the file server ok. When I try to map the network drive with net use , or by browsing the workgroup, I get "Workgroup MSHOME is not accessable etc etc" Anyone have any ideas why not? It seems like a fairly simple setup. -Al

It seems like a fairly simple setup. Did you add the laptop's user account/password to the pseudo-server? This needs to be done. Problems sharing files between computers on a network are generally caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall; or 2) inadvertently running two firewalls such as the built-in Windows Firewall and a third-party firewall; and/or 3) not having identical user accounts and passwords on all Workgroup machines; 4) trying to create shares where the operating system does not permit it. Guest BigAl.NZ@gmail.com Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Re: Networking shares problem!! Ofr course - That probably it Malke. I was going to use the command net share \\server\share /user:name password, but the file server has one account user which doesnt have a password. I will create the "laptop account" on the file server. Then reboot to finalize the changes.
