Networking shares problem!!

Hi Guys,

There is a simple solution to this i am sure.

There is a network with about 5 PC's on it connected to a router. No

Domain controller etc.

Most of the PC's are set to workgroup MSHOME, and one PC which acts as

a file server is on WORKGROUP.

All the PC's can access the share on the file server called \

\p4server. The full name of the share is \\p4server\Data.

Now for some reason we have added a laptop to the network, and cant

access the share.

I can ping the file server ok.

When I try to map the network drive with net use , or by browsing the

workgroup, I get "Workgroup MSHOME is not accessable etc etc"

Anyone have any ideas why not? It seems like a fairly simple setup.

Did you add the laptop's user account/password to the pseudo-server?

This needs to be done.

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are generally

caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall; or 2) inadvertently running two

firewalls such as the built-in Windows Firewall and a third-party

firewall; and/or 3) not having identical user accounts and passwords on

all Workgroup machines; 4) trying to create shares where the operating

system does not permit it.

Ofr course - That probably it Malke.

I was going to use the command net share \\server\share /user:name

password, but the file server has one account user which doesnt have a

password.

I will create the "laptop account" on the file server.

Cheers

Might also want to try setting all the machines to use the same workgroup,

like HOME, MSHOME, or whatever suits you. Then reboot to finalize the

changes.
