Guest Ron Badour Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Any error message and if so, please post it verbatim. Have you tried doing a ctrl-alt-del and killing any application that is running before shutting down? -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP 1997 - 2007 "Dan Conrad" wrote in message news:ODhIXOZzHHA.1484@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Laptop locks during shutdown -- only way to stop is to hold down off > button. Goes thru initial stages, blue screen appears and then freezes. You have a program running 24/7 that is not responding to windows shutdown. Disable background apps one or two at a time to find out which one is causing the hangup. -- http://www.bootdisk.com/
Guest Andrew E. Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 RE: shutdown issue You might edit Msconfig & chk task mgr for running programs/services.. However, even after editing the problem could exist,to have a quick shutdown, go to run, type:regedit In regedit,expand:HKEY_USERS\Default\Control panel\ Desktop,& double click AutoEndTasks. In the value data field, set to 1 close out regedit.Actually this is more of a tweak to xp than a fix,but it will work as one... Thanks Had a similar issue to this with an IBM Lenovo Thinkpad, it was resolved by updating to the latest power drivers from them. -- Steve Parry MCP MVP http://www.gwynfryn.co.uk

Guest Dan Conrad Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Re: shutdown issue No errors are shown-- windows gets to screen "windows is shutting down", but never does. System will shutdown in safe mode -- but not in regular -- have tried shutting down processes in task manager -- basically even if I close everything other than system processes -- still hangs.
