Guest Angel Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Re: Experts I Need Your Help Hi Eduardo, You mentioned the make of the modem. What is the model? Are you sure it is westrell versalink and not westell versalink? I went to the website of the Westell company. They make a lot of Modems. When I tried to go to the westrell website, there were no modems listed. Did you get it from Verison? When I went to Yahoo Search it has only 2 links listed. Again as you were asked from the experts list your make and modell of the modem. Well, I have to get off because of a thunder storm is moving in. A severe one. Guest Angel Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Re: Experts I Need Your Help Hi Eduardo, I read the answers from the link you posted. I also went up to the Westell website and found out that the complete Model number is possibly: C90-327W30-06 made for Bell South. Am I right? I think Gary tried to tell you how to set it up? If any questions ask again what is not clear to you. Well now there is a tornado warning for my county. So I have to get off and shut down my computer. Guest Eduardo Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Re: Experts I Need Your Help ok gary look at this After connecting your PC to the modem, run "WinIPcfg". If everything is working, it should show that you have an IP address (probably something like 192.168.1.5). Check the internet gateway address it lists - probably 192.168.1.254. NO IP ADDRESS WHEN I FIRST OPEN WINIPCOFG OR WHEN I REsTART THE MNACHINE AND YES I HAVE A PPP ADAPTER If that much isn't working, then you might have a problem with the Windows network configuration. I would try rebooting the Win98 system, with the modem still connected, to see if that clears it up. I DID THAT NOTHING HAPPENS now?? what should i do gary?

Eduardo: When you run WINPCONFIG it defaults to the PPP adapter which is for a dial up connection (56K modem). Since you are trying to connect to your DSL Modem/Router you need to select your ethernet connection. When you start WINIPCONFIG use the arrow next to the window that shows "PPP Adapter" to choose your ethernet adapter from the drop down list. The readings will change to reflect the new selection. Guest Gary S. Terhune Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Re: Experts I Need Your Help To be honest, I don't know for sure. I'm not really a networking expert. Personally, at this point I'd try rebuilding the network installation on your machine. Go to Network applet, remove everything, then go to Device Manager, delete the NIC, and in the Properties of your dial-up modem, Disable in this Profile (not the exact terms, but I don't have a 98 machine in front of me.) Reboot and then reinstall the NIC and let Windows rebuild the networking. -- Gary S. Guest Angel Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Re: Experts I Need Your Help Hi Gary, The Modem that eduardo has is from BellSouth it is a Westell Versalink, NOT Verstrell Versalink. Model # 327 When I looked it up at the link he put on the post to me a few posts back. I looked and it was 327W30. I then went to the Verstell website and it is listed as C90-327W30-06 I wish he would confirm that it is the exact model. Gary, please click on the link that he posted a few posts back. Guest Gary S. Terhune Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Re: Experts I Need Your Help I located info on that model, Angel. All I can say is that it is supposed to handle Win98 just fine. Why it's not working here is the question, thus the idea of using his Vista machine to set up and prove the DSL connection before connecting the Win98 machine. We need to know if the modem is actually getting the DSL service and is activated. That he can use the Vista machine to access the internet. -- Gary S. Guest Angel Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Re: Experts I Need Your Help Hi, I just hope that Eduardo does not try to use the software that came with his DSL package. The AT&T keeps sending me email trying to get me to download their Virus scan and other stuff. I will not do it. Every once in a while their repair tool comes up because something goofs. I don't do it. The situation I was in goes away almost as soon as it happened. Sometimes all it takes is to quit the program I am using or restart the computer. I would be leery that I would really get into trouble using their repair tool. I would rather ask in this discussion group when problems arise. You have to do a custom install when you install the modem. You do not need all the programs that the AT&T want you to download. That probably goes with any Internet Provider. Guest Angel Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Re: Experts I Need Your Help Thanks PCR, I can always go to the dial up if I need to get off a message or email to shout for help if I have a problem. I never disabled my dial up modem. So all I have to do is unplug the DSL modem and plug in the dial up cord to the phone line. I tried it and it works. It did when I checked it out right after I got the DSL. Yahoo scans their email.I think it is Norton. I have some other email boxes. I do not trust them. I get a lot of junk mail in them. Even when I did not open their email, I was getting Trojans. That was a while back.
