Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 What exactly does it say on that disk Cab? Quote
caburden Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 it say's toshiba product recovery for distribution only with a new toshiba pc Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Ok so what happens when you just insert the disk? Does it give you recovery options when it loads? It will obviously do something, please tell all that happens. Quote
caburden Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 when i put it in it does nothing except repeating the message in my other post Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Ok shut the pc down and re-start and go into the bios by pressing F2, Del or whatever key it needs when you see the message; "Press Del (example) to Enter Setup". Set the bios boot order to cdrom first and put the disk in. Save the settings and exit the bios. The disk may then start the recovery, tell us what happens. Quote
caburden Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 ok it took me to a recovery unit and asking which i want to install and to click on settings to choose the partition size or to choose the current first partition.at the moment it says current size is:use entire hdd.if i choose that it will erase the entire harddisc do i want to do that? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Without actually being there Cab this is difficult but it sounds to me like it wants to use "the current first partition" to recover from. Again I have to ask what exactly does it say with regard to the partition? This is crucial Cab. Quote
caburden Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 ok it say's please select the item you want to install and click on next click on [settings] to choose a partition size or to use the current first partiton for recovery current recovery partition size is:use entire hdd when i click on settings it say's choose the partition size to unpack to in gigabytes.the hard disk will be completely erased (recommened)38gb or format and recover to an existing first partition on your hard disk Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Ok when the machine was fully working before did you have any other partitions other than just the one eg; C: ? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 You see Cab the things that's confusing me mate is how what it appears to be saying is phrased, example; "format and recover to an existing first partition on your hard disk" whereas it should say "Recover from an existing first partition on your hard disk" I'll go out on a limb here and say that you should use the first partition. In theory all it should do is reinstall all windows system files and leave your stuff alone. I have looked at the Toshiba site and it's trash for support. If you have valuable stuff you want to save then I recommend taking it to a reputable pc repair shop, the downside is the cost of doing so. Quote
caburden Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 when i click for the first partition it say's do you want to use this partition: partition type:windows NT ntfs(id:07) partition size:38.15gb bootable:YES Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Go for it Cab. Let us know how you go on mate. Quote
caburden Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 i did it afterwards it said done(files:29133/29133 folders:19001900 please remove the recovery medium.does that mean the disk? Quote
caburden Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 has'nt done nothing keeps repeating what it did before Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Go back into the bios and set the first boot now to the hard drive, save settings and exit and get back to us. Quote
