Hello all:

Our company is a little late updating to 2003 Server. We have two 2000

Servers right now and will be purchasing a 2003 Server very soon. There are

roughly 40-50 workstations connecting to these servers (about half 2000 and

half XP).

Will the CALs for the 2000 and XP OSes work with 2003 Server? Is there

anything we need to purchase beyond 2003 Server when we buy the hardware?

Thanks.

RE: CALs

If you do not have software assurance you will have to buy 2003 license and

CAL's. When upgrading the cals and license you had for 2000 will not mead

squat :), that is of course unless you have SA (software assurance).

You do not have cals for 2000 (client) and or XP, you merely have cals on

the server (client access licenses) which allows your users to access the

servers, the client OS makes no difference.

Re: CALs

Hi John,

Here's the Microsoft client licensing doc...

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/howtobuy/licensing/caloverview.mspx

Also if you are upgrading your Terminal Server (if you have one) you will

need to purchase new TS CALs as well, assuming you do not have Software

Assurance...

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/howtobuy/licensing/ts2003.mspx

Although if this is the case you should check out this doc as you may

qualify for this...

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/howtobuy/licensing/tsletter.mspx

:-)
