Hello Giku

I dont understand the example.

On my desktop computer The icon has a box under, which has my bank name, or Ebay,I click on it and it opens up.

On my laptop I do the same and it does'nt, I just get the message I originally refered to.

Hello Seth.

I tried but got the same result.

Sorry for my poor example Bowler. Let me clear myself. :)

First log on your Desktop computer and configure the settings so that they show the hidden extensions of files. After this has been done, please highlight the file named Ebay on your Desktop and see what is the extension of the file. That should normally be the last three or four letters after the dot. Note this extension down. Now log on to your Laptop, rename the file and put the same extension you noted down behind the Ebay file on your laptop. Then try opening the file. This should be able to solve the problem. Please let us know the results as soon as you can. :)

If you are using Internet Explorer, it is easier to save them as Web Pages on your Favourites. When you open a Web Page that you want to save, there are two stars at the top left; one is big and gold and the one next to it is smaller with a green cross over it. When you are on a page that you want to save that is to say Ebay in this case, click the smaller one with the green cross on and then click the big star to the left of it. In this way, they are stored in there. When you want to access them, click it again and they are stored in there (you can rename the pages to whatever you want when you save them). Sorry if this sounds patronizing but its the easiest way to do what you are describing. Edited by Goku

Hello Goku

Im sorry but "configure the settings so that they show the hidden extensions of files" and highlight the file" are to technical for me.

My problem is a lack of short term memory means having to write down all the actions needed to do things. It was hoped that a computer would be an aid. Im now having doubts. Ted

Hello Dalo

The way you describe is the way I use on my laptop at present.

The BT signal I get is low .normally 1.7 g.bits.BT have said this is due to the distance from the exchange and the number of users on my supply.

This seems to make the click time slow,I have found using the desktop icon method needs one click to open the page, whereas the favourites method needs three clicks, one to open the server one to open the favourites and one to open the page.

If it can be done with less please let me know Ted

No need to worry Bowler as even I get lost on these instructions sometimes. Here is a complete step-by-step guide so that you can achieve what I want you to do.

1) Log on to your Desktop Computer.

2) On the desktop, open My Computer. If you don't see My Computer, then open any folder.

3) Select the Tools menu and then select Folder Options.....

http://www.fileinfo.net/images/help/win-folder-options.gif

4) In the Folder Options window, click on the View tab.

http://www.fileinfo.net/images/help/win-folder-options-view.gif

5) Uncheck the box next to Hide file extensions for known file types.

6) Click OK to close the Folder Options window.

7) Close My Computer or the folder you have opened.

Now go to desktop and select the file that has the name of your bank. You select a file by single-clicking on it. You should read a file name. Note it down.

Now log on to your laptop and select the file that has the name of your bank. Right-click on the file and select Rename. Enter the file name exactly as you noted down from the file on your Desktop computer. When you are done, press the Enter key. Now try and open the file again.

Hope this clears up the instructions for you. Good Luck. :)

Lets create the short-cut again.

  • Right-click on an empty section on your desktop and select New and then Shortcut like this:

  • In the box that comes up type in the "http://www.cahoot.co.uk/" and click on Next (Don't include the quotation marks)

    http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn297/Mjfreepchelp/createshortcut.png
  • Now type in a name for the shortcut. Can be anything.

  • Click on Finish

Do you still get the same error?

Hi Ted

I am suspecting malware on your computer. As you do banking on the internet i would reccomend you doing the following scans:

  • Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent.
It is a combination of the words malicious and software.
The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code.

  • Required Cleanup Steps
    1. Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled
    2. Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF)
    3. Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below)
    4. Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below)
    5. Clear out old System Restore points
    6. If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested.

The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something.

The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed.

Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes.

The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours.

In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer.

Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean.

For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page

To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below.

From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range"

click the
