From the start menu, when I try to access the ( Help and Support ) menu,

It does not do anything. There is a small disk light flicker, then

absolutely nothing. Also in any of the MS Office products, in the About

menu, there is a menu item for ( System Information ). I used to be able

to view my system information with that. Now it too is gone. Just click it

in any of the programs, and it is gone. Any help will be greatly

appreciated. Thanks.

See if this script from Doug Knox fixes the problem for you:

Re: Have lost Help & Support On Win XP SP2

Tom,

Thank you very much for the reply. I have downloaded the vbs script,

and executed it.

It did not make any change at all. I have executed it twice, and both

times I received

the message that the file/registry has been repaired. The disk light

flickers for a second

then nothing. In reading the description, it looked like that was it.

Thanks again, and I will

try any other suggestions.

Click on the Start button, select Run and enter the following command:

helpctr -regserver

Press OK. That should re-register the help center files.

Tom;

Thanks again, I have tried the regserver command, three different times,

and have powered off and on again, and still no access.

I looked in the windows folder, and thier is a help folder that has very

many files in it. Thanks again for your patience and suggestions.

Tricky one here. OK, go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_h.htm and

scroll down to the Help and Support section. Kelly lists there some

more advanced troubleshooting steps that you can try to see if they

resolve the problem.

Re: Have lost Help & Support On Win XP SP2

Try this. Click start/click run and type in the run window (or copy n'

paste) *msconfig* then click ok.

When the window opens look for the tab marked 'Services' (2nd from top

right), and click to open it scroll down to 'Help and Support' make sure

the box is ticked... if it's not ticked it will not be running thus will

not be loaded. Click the box to tick then click 'Apply' and then 'OK'

and reboot.

NOTE:

If you make changes here it will make a box to pop up everytime you

reboot - not to worry simply click the little window thats say's 'Do not

show this again' and it will go away.

Also see this 'Help and Support From Start menu won't open'

Re: Have lost Help & Support On Win XP SP2

Tom;

I have tried all the suggestions on the link except one.

( To reinstall Help and Support: Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf.

Right click and choose install. Have your CD handy. )

This one aksed me to mount the WinXP SP2 Disk. I don't have one, as I

have downloaded the file from MS Web Site, many

months ago. Also the Win XP came installed with the IBM computer. I

would think about going to Vista, but need a larger

hard drive, video board, sound, memory .......... Thanks again for all

of your help.

Re: Have lost Help & Support On Win XP SP2

davy;

Thanks for the reply. I have checked the services, and it says that it

is running,

also from the Manage menu/services, it says it is started. I stopped it,

the started

it again, and no change at all. I am really lost at this time. I will

keep plugging away.

Thnaks again. Guy
