Using an older Scanner/Twain Driver with Windows XP

I have a SCSI scanner (Relisys) and connected an Adaptec AVA-2906 Fast SCSI

PCI card in the appropriate expansion slot. I loaded the scanner driver from

a CD I purchased (and downloaded the Adaptec Driver for Windows, version

4.71) from the web. My PC uses Windows XP Media Center edition. I am using

Presto Image Folio which I installed from a CD. I have 2 problems. First,

when I turn on the scanner and then the computer, the computer tells me I

have new hardware installed (the SCSI card and scanner) and that I must load

the driver. This program does not recognize the scanner driver from the CD,

or from the hard drive when I copy it from the CD or from the files when I

unzip the installer. I cannot close out of that window because it keeps

coming back as long as the scanner is on.

The second (and more serious) problem is when I use Presto Image Folio to

scan an image. I can choose the ASPI Manager for the Adaptec card, and the

scanner has the proper SCSI ID number. When I try to do a prescan, the

scanner goes through its prescan, but from the PC two things happen. A pop up

box tells me Windows Data Execution Prevention (which protects from viruses

and other security threats) is closing "Twain.dll Client's 32-bit Server",

and when I close that message, a second popup tells me "TWUNK_32.EXE has

encountered a problem and needs to close." From that point on I cannot get

any response from the scanner without rebooting and starting over. I have

tried deleting Twain.dll and replacing it with the older version from the

driver CD, but Windows XP automatically replaces it with the "newer" version.

Will someone PLEASE tell me what I am doing wrong.
