steve Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Hi my pc has only got 64mb of ram, so i'm looking to upgrade. I've scanned my PC and it can only take 512mb of ram. I've read how to add extra ram, but could i just pull out my 64mb and put in 512mb? Also if i do this does it make any difference if I put in one 512mb ram card or two 256mb ram cards as I know I've got three slots? Quote
andyhargreaves Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 2 x 256Mb cards may be cheaper than 1 x 512Mb, oddly. Other than that, if 512Mb is the maximum then I think the difference would not be noticable. Andy Quote
steve Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 But I'm right in thinking that i wolud not lose any data from my pc if I pulled out my existing RAM and replaced it with new RAM? Quote
andyhargreaves Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 No, you shouldn't do as long as you shut the PC down properly rather than hibernating it before performing the upgrade. Yes, I made that mistake once.... Probably a good idea to make an up-to-date backup of anything essential, just in case. Andy Quote
