Guest JTR Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I recently had to re-install Windows XP and since then I'm having trouble installing updates. I have automatic updates turned on but when I get the icon shield noting I have updates ready to install when I select to install, it appears they are installing but after I get a window saying saing "Some updates could not be installed" the number that could not be installed is the number of updates it found. I also have other programs that can't tell I'm connected to the Internet (ie; virus updates, network magic, etc.) I'm using wireless broadband (Linksys) and can navigate the Internet fine but, like I said, programs that need to update cannot tell I'm connected. Any help would be appreciated. -- Thanks, JTR
Guest sgopus Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 RE: Windows XP Updates Network magic requires that it can talk to your router, if you have plugged the cable from the internet into the wrong connection in to your router, you will be able to access the internet, but network magic will not, nor will it be able to communicate with your router, I know this by experience, a few weeks ago I installed a new router with NM and I was stumped when I could access the internet but not talk to my router, anyway check your cable ensure it's plugged into the correct connection on your router, mine embarrassingly enough is marked (internet) "JTR" wrote: > I recently had to re-install Windows XP and since then I'm having trouble > installing updates. Guest JTR Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Re: Windows XP Updates Thanks Patty, I guess I should have explained, I uninstalled network magic on the laptop in question and still have the problem. I do have nm on two other PC's in the house with no problems. -- Thanks, JTR "Patty" wrote: > On Tue, 24 Jul 2007 15:56:01 -0700, sgopus wrote: > > > Network magic requires that it can talk to your router, if you have plugged > > the cable from the internet into the wrong connection in to your router, you > > will be able to access the internet, but network magic will not, nor will it > > be able to communicate with your router, I know this by experience, a few > > weeks ago I installed a new router with NM and I was stumped when I could > > access the internet but not talk to my router, anyway check your cable ensure > > it's plugged into the correct connection on your router, mine embarrassingly > > enough is marked (internet) > > > > It if's not marked "internet" it should be marked WAN (wide area network). > > Patty >
