two windows maximized at once?

I like to have several programmes open, for instance a word processor and a

dictionary or browser. I would like to be able to work in my word processor and

have the dictionary open at the same time. Now the moment I click the

dictionary, the word processor gets minimized to the sys tray.

Does anyone know of (free or cheap) software that can achieve this? I know it

can be done using two monitors, but I would like to have this on my laptop with

only one monitor.

Windows XP Pro, SP2.

Right-click an empty area of taskbar > Cascade windows (check)
