"%USERPROFILE%" directory

Lately I've had occurences of the following folder appearing on the desktop

and in the C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah Back\My Documents\%USERPROFILE%.

It is an actual folder not a variable appearing in both locations. I can

remove it and things are fine. Ad-Aware, Virus Scan and Rootkit Detector

turn up no results. Checked the registry and found nothing to explain this

behavior.

Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks in Advance

Verify that all the values in these keys do not contain any incorrect,

incomplete, or null entries (such as ""). Also make sure that all entries

that have spaces are included within quotes. These values can be checked

here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Re: "%USERPROFILE%" directory

Hello Kelly

Thanks Already checked the registry like I said nothing there under HKLM and

HKCU. Also not a problem with the taskbar, unless the app repairs more then

Taskbar issues.

Re: "%USERPROFILE%" directory

I've seen in some cases where a badly written installer creates the folder

(as a bad example) C:\Windows\%ProgramFiles%\NewApp when the installer should

of of created C:\Program Files\NewApp.

Re: "%USERPROFILE%" directory

Hmmm Good point Gis, I do remember something similar to that with CygWin.

I'll check into it to see if some application has a bad path statement.

Should be pretty simple since most apps don't try to write to the user's

profile, then just take the set variables from Windows.

Kelly I will do a more exhaustive search of the registry maybe I did miss

something.

Thank you both Will update when I have more info.
