As in MSN explorer,or msn.com,thier is a diffrence...If msn explorer is the

issue, try installing xp cd,select, windows components, chk that msn is checked.

And/or,chk event viewer for errors/warnings.

Are you able to connect to other Sites?, did you scan for viruses and

malware on this machine?.

What your Anti-Virus and firewall or do you have any protection Software

installed?.

It doesn't sound good to me, you need to provide in depth info for us to

help you.

RE: MSN & LIMEWIRE not connecting

ok i had few viruses and my computer crashed but limewire worked till last

minute.. i deleted my xp partition and reinstalled xp

now i have not even put a antivirus on it or anything.

the internet is working fine with no problems but MSN messenger and Limewire

will not connect. limewire just says connecting even if i leave it overnight

and msn just wont log on.

if it worked before with viruses then it should be working now too but

something has happened

thank you for all your help so far

RE: MSN & LIMEWIRE not connecting

Big Mistake to have a Machine without Anti-Virus and Firewall at least.

Try to get either but both AVG free or AVast also Avira Good AV with

Firewall like ZA, Comodo , Kerio and install one of both of the software

above on your machine.

For Firewall go here and you can make your search on the rest :

http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp

Install run a scan then configure the Firewall to ask you when an

application want to access the Internet (Note there some application trusted

one to allow Access without asking you, otherwise it will be a painful job

keeping asking you every second).

Have a look in the Event Viewer for error messages (X) that can through some

light on the exact causer, you may have a damaged Software installation?.

Re: MSN & LIMEWIRE not connecting

Ivan,

Its a huge mistake not to use a virus scanner & firewall

Does sound like a port is blocked. if you are using SP 2 then Limewire needs to

listen on a certain port (see below for instructions) & you will need to add it

to the Windows Firewall Exception list

In Limewire you have TOOLS | OPTIONS | ADVANCED | FIREWALL CONFIGURATION... &

you can set it to Use UPnP & the port is listed at the top-right of this dialog

box

From using Limewire for a few years I have noticed that anything that is 197 kb

or 851.7 kb is an old fileshare virus. Always add them to the JUNK list
