Guest Paul Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Just bought a new Dell laptop. Product key reported by Belarc is different from one on COA sticker. Is this something to do with OEM volume install? Do I need to do anything about it? Paul

Dell gave you a copy with a legitimate product key. As long as it is working, as long as you can get updates - no - you need to do nothing. However - remember - if something bothers you - even the license for the Microsoft product - because you bought OEM - Dell (not Microsoft) is your direct line of support. Call them, let them know your concern. You paid them, now use what you paid for. ;-) -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and haven't since reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is that of the drive image used at the factory, and not your specific Product Key; therefore, it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not be -- used for a re-installation. > Do > I need to do anything about it? > Not a thing; it's perfectly normal. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell
