TS licensing on Windows 2003 R2

Recommended Posts

Hi

As there is now a requirement to have a license server running on the

network, was wondering how licensing works now.

I am in the process of buying 2x5 licenses, which I was initially intending

to deploy 5 licenses on 2 separate machines.

Was wondering if this changed with the server model, would this mean that

these licenses would allow access to any machine with TS installed up to the

limit of the 10 I will own?

Hoping that someone can clarify this for me.

Many Thanks in advance.

Mike

Note that TS CALs are issued to clients (or users), not to Terminal

Servers.

So if both your Terminal Servers are used by the same group of

clients or users, there is no problem at all.

If you install all 10 licenses on the TS Licensing Server, and both

of your Terminal Servers use this LS as their TS Licensing Server,

then your 10 TS CALs will be issued to the first 10 clients that

connect, irrespective of which TS they connect to.

If you need to separate licensing, with a license to 5 clients of

each TS, then you will need to install 2 separate TS Licensing

Servers. You will also need to define 2 TS Licensing Security

groups, because by default all Terminal Servers can use all TS

Licensing Servers which they can locate.
