Guest MJ Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Hello, First I am not a technical person so forgive me if I ask a really easy question. A client of mine has a PIN for Windows 2000 Terminal Server that they want to know when the install/upgrade to Windows 2003 Terminal Server, can they use the same PIN. Or do they have to go to the licensing wizard and follow the steps to go to the Microsoft Clearinghouse and get a new PIN? Does the PIN even exist for Windows 2003 Terminal Server? Thanks MJ
Guest Vera Noest [MVP] Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Re: Windows 2000 TS PIN for Windows 2003 TS I assume that you mean the PIN which was received and used to activate the W2K TS Licensing Server, correct? You won't be able to use this when the server is upgraded to 2003, since the PIN is Product-ID specific, and the Product-ID will be changed. When you perform an in-place upgrade of a W2K TS LS to 2003, the TS LS will still be installed, but it has to be activated again. Here's how you activate a 2003 TS Licensing Server: 325869 - How to activate a License Server by using Terminal Server Licensing in Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=325869 Note that when you upgrade the Terminal Servers (not the TS LS) to 2003, that you need a 2003 TS CAL for every connecting client or user. Any W2K TS CALs that you may have purchased are useless, unless you have Software Assurance and can upgrade them as well. _________________________________________________________ Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server TS troubleshooting: http://ts.veranoest.net ___ please respond in newsgroup, NOT by private email ___ =?Utf-8?B?TUo=?= <MJ@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote on 27 jul 2007 in microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services: > Hello, > > First I am not a technical person so forgive me if I ask a > really easy question.
