Guest gs Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 how would one setup two w2k3 servers of standard editions so that ,say, A is file server and is primary DC for the domain, B is the exchange server is to be the backup DC? Someone was trying to tell me there is no such thing as primary and backup DC for w2K3 server
Guest SBS Rocker Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Re: w2k3 servers That is correct. The term PDC and BDC no longer exists since the old NT days. Bascically the first server online is the (primary) DC and will hold the FSMO roles as well as the Global Catalogs and be the primary DNS server Any other W2k3 servers that come online and are DC's can be considered a "secondary" DC. So you can have Server A be the first server online and a DC and the second W2k3 server can come online as a DC also and also be your Exchange server and secondary DNS server. All AD DCs operate in multimaster mode except for the 5 FSMO roles of which one role is the PDC *emulator*. There is no way to create a Win 2k or Win 2k3 "BDC". hth DDS "gs" <gs@dontMail.telus> wrote in message news:OpWudLJ0HHA.3916@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > how would one setup two w2k3 servers of standard editions so that ,say, > A is file server and is primary DC for the domain, > B is the exchange server is to be the backup DC? > Someone was trying to tell me there is no such thing as primary and backup > DC for w2K3 server >
Guest gs Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Re: w2k3 servers so if I want the domain pc to go look for logon roaming profile, I should bring up the server A first, not exchange server first? The global catalogue and all the AD change will be replicated to the other server? I am in the process to tracking down teh roaming profile problem for users. users can't find roaming profile if someone else has logged on the same PC. the user would then have to wait till the windows is ready , logoff and log back in.
