Oh dear! There you go again. Shame your knowledge of the world and its

people is so limited. As for my being a jerk, you may be correct but at

least I'm not an ignorant moron.

Again with the third grade name calling? Shame your intelligence is so

limited that you can't argue a point without resorting to insults. If you

don't like driving on routes, go drive on some roots. I don't care how you

want to pronouce it. Go back to eating your bangers, or whatever your

ignorant people do.

Ah, this thread seems to be having more than just you, Harry, seeing red.

<g>. As someone earlier pointed out, the intermittent red may well be a

problem with the monitor. However, this is easily proven valid or no by

performing the simple little test with just the monitor on.

English hasn't got a whole lot of native words (Anglo-Saxon based). It has

borrowed numerous words from other languages. Do you watch a /karaoke/

barbecue on your television?

'karaoke' is Japanese.

'barbecue' comes from a Caribe Indian word.

'tele' is Greek.

'vision' is Latin.

English has a lot of ambiguity in both pronunciation, and spelling. Has

anybody ever presented you with a present? (How can 'present' be both a

'gift', and 'time' period? For that matter, how can 'period' be both a dot

at the end of the sentence, and a time reference?

The soldiers ate dessert in the desert, after which two deserted their post?

On whose authority do you determine the proper pronunciation of 'route'?

Oh, and what makes English the current 'Universal Language' is the economic

power of the U.S.A. You want to do business with powerful companies, they

are probably USAian, and you need to know English to communicate with them.

That probably will *not* hold true as PRC gain prominence as an economic

power.

English is not the only language which borrows foreign words. We got

/karaoke/, /karate/, /typhoon/, and /tsunami/ from the people who call

'bread', 'pan', and cake, 'keiki', and ice cream, 'isu kureemu'. And they

live in 'apaatos' (apartments).

Re: The Color 'Red' is missing

You fairly well summed it up, Norman, the basic english language is a mix of

several languages (Kauderwelsch) and started out with the german slang,

spoken in the northern part of Germany in earlier times, called

'Plattdeutsch' and still is. There may be people disagreeing with it, but

the fact still remains. Remember the Anglo-Saxons?

The dictionary will always tell us, what's 'cool'.

Why are we 'arguing' about this anyaway?

Think Eric and Mike will make up?

Harry.

I beg your pardon, Figglet. Do a search for my previous posts and you will

find the use of "whilst" in a number of them.

You have to remember, me mum is a Limey.

Doing much better, thank you, Joanie. The swelling is down to the point I

can almost get a shoe on! Still some pain, but, it is subsiding. Color is

still far from normal....unless I am part black. If the lawsuit comes to

fruition, I am sure it will feel a LOT better!

Re: The Color 'Red' is missing

I explained that in my earlier post, <H>. Simply turn on your monitor,

without turning on the cpu....you can leave everything connected. Your

monitor should have some sort of screen saver built in that will inform you

that you "have no signal" and "the monitor is working properly"....usually,

a small window of varying colors that moves around on the screen.

Additionally, you should have access to the menu of settings which includes

the color adjustments, skew, brightness, contrast, etc. If these menu

items and the screen saver message are of proper color, then the problem is

with something other than your monitor, i.e. the video cable, the

connections or the video card and/or the integrity of its' seating. If the

color is okay in the monitor only test, try first reconnecting the video

cable at both ends. If this does not help, then try 'reseating' the video

card (taking proper precautions of disconnecting power and grounding

yourself to the case or suitable ground so as not to destroy any static

sensitive devices).

If the color is out of whack in the monitor only test, you have a bad

monitor and, as stated by someone earlier, don't waste your money getting a

CRT fixed. Bite the bullet and get an LCD....they are getting pretty cheap

now. If the video cable is at fault, you can 'usually' reproduce the

symptoms by moving or wiggling the cable and connections. If this fails to

help, you are left with swapping the video card.....they, too, are getting

pretty cheap.......you could probably find someone that will give you one of

their old 32 or 64Meg cards that is still working well.

Suggest you go back through the pertinent portions of this thread, all the

suggestions seem to have been valid.

Heirloom, old and must find some

sustinence

That's why God made peppers........

Heirloom, old and I've got something that would

spice the paint off your walls.

Question of the day: How can you tell if Figgy is wearing panty hose??

Answer: Feed her a bowl of my chili......if, after an hour, her ankles are

swollen....she's wearing panty hose.

Warning: Don't be in a closed room with her if she loosens the

waistband...run, call Hazmat and the EPA.

No way!! Holidays derives from "holy days"......your word just derives

from "leaving your house/work/wife/etc". (as in vacate).

We of the nobility take holy days.......commoners vacate.

Re: The Color 'Red' is missing

Heirloom:

When turning on the 'Monitor only', nothing happens. The screen stays dark

and empty, without any life whatsoever. Hence my 'ignorance'.

As things stand right now, I'm going to wait for the next 'computer show'

and get a new LCD Monitor, which will be some time late in September.

Meanwhile I can live with the intermittently missing red color, which BTW.

isn't all that bad. Appreciate your help a whole lot, H, thank you.

Harry.

Re: The Color 'Red' is missing

Hey you two.....Elayne is the photographer on our holidays. Ron just

wears the camera around his neck so he can "play tourist"...lol.

I did up a couple more of my "creations" and I will only charge Mikey

twice the price. For postage, of course. Now that I am on a bit of a

roll, must get back to it. I had to go out for bits and pieces

yesterday so that I could finish up what I had there.

This is one expensive hobby, but I am constantly amazing myself when

something I agonize over turns out so good. Elayne has put her order in

for a friend. So have to make that one up.

Cheers....the Queen of Diamonds
