keeps shuttig down....PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi,

My pc keeps shutting down without any warning or anything and when I

try to switch on the cpu again, it doesn't even get

through the booting process. After sometime, when I try it, it works

for about 15 mins and then shuts down again. The

temps have been normal

cpu - 41

Ambient - 43

remote - 66

HDD - 43

temp1 - 41

Previously it used to restart/show the bluescreen. But, after some

days without any problems, now it just shuts down. It

can happen any moment now.

How can this problem suddenly occur? What do you think I should do? Is

it hardware or software related? Do you think

reinstalling xp should work? How will I reinstall if it keeps shutting

down every 15 mins???!!!

Please help!!!

Regards.

Re: keeps shuttig down....PLEASE HELP!!!!

I usually use my pc for a long time (12 hrs). Can this be a side

effect of that? Would it be related to the power circuits in the cpu?

May be it shuts down due to overheating at a certain point. Please

tell me something that makes sense. I'm terribly confused!!

I hope someone answers you. I have been ansking this same question and my

CPU and computer is not overheating. I has been running for 4 years just

fine and about 3 weeks ago it started just shutting down randomly. Also I

have a 'click' that clicks every 3 minutes that is driving me crazy that

started 3 days ago. I have had no sane answers to these questions and the

just suddenly started. I just turned off auto update so I know when I load

things onto my PC and then when things break I know the relationship.

Hope you get an aswner. Meke sure the inside if our computer is clean and

all the fans are working so it is not a heating issue.

Re: keeps shuttig down....PLEASE HELP!!!!

Overheating isn't the only thing that causes spontaneous restarts. (I've

frankly never heard of a spontaneous shutdown. Usually reboots.) Failing

hardware can be at fault and act similarly. Anyway, just because the temps

are OK doesn't mean heating isn't an issue. Electronic components that are

near to failure may overheat in ways that aren't measured, maybe causing a

short, and most such failures will result in a reboot. Your issue with

restarts and now the sounds, suggests to me that you have such a failure

going on. Diagnostics start with paring the hardware to a minimum. Pull all

the cards, disconnect all drives except the one Windows is on, then set up

some test usages (whatever apps you think might be involved, for instance),

and see if the behavior continues. Oh, and use MSCONFIG to stop all non-MS

applications and services from loading at startup. Personally, I'd also make

room for another OS partition, clean install Windows to that and see if the

problem is "fixed". If not, it's hardware for sure.

The other thing to consider, speaking to the OP especially, is that malware

might be involved. See http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

Re: keeps shuttig down....PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thanks Jack, for giving me company in the sea of wierd problems.

Guess what? These wierd problems have wierd solutions and I think I've

figured it out. I think!!

I started my PC last time and just uninstalled Regcure before it blew

up! Now, Its been 4.5 Hrs and no sign of another shut down. May be its

just another practical joke that my PC is pulling off at me. I don't

know.

Guess how I knew to uninstall the program and solve the problem? Past

experience. Last time I was having trouble with spontaneous restarts

and then one day I just uninstalled gmail notifier and It

stopped......only to give rise to spontaneous shutdowns. I'm secretly

hoping that this is the end of the tunnel of wierd problems.

goodluck with your tweaking.

Congratulations. I hope it has. Mine suddenly has not done it resently. I

went in and uplugged everything inside the comeputer. Then repluged

everything back in and mine stopped...so far. So, if you starts, before

removing anymore programs, reset all the wire and card withing the computer

to make sure everything is making good contact, especially if you PC is more

than a year old and you live in a humid climiate...I am in Houston. I did

not think about this the other night, but did mine the next morning and so

far, so good.

Best Ever,

Re: keeps shuttig down....PLEASE HELP!!!!

It's not uncommon for a PCI card to "come loose" for want of a better term,

after moving a computer. It doesn't flap in the breeze, but shifts just

enough for it to not detected by the motherboard. Re-seating the card fixes

this.

I have also had the weird experience of an IDE cable pushing itself off the

pins after 8 months of use. There had been no HDD swapping or even the sides

off the case in that time. I did note it took more effort that you average

IDE cable to connect, (yes it was on correctly), but it just made me think,

"Great! better contact." ;-)

Or sometimes just reseating the pci card in a different slot on the

motherboard.

Re: keeps shuttig down....PLEASE HELP!!!!

OK, I was wrong. It seems like I have a hardware problem. I've gotta

reset the wiring and cards. Hopefully it must work.

Actually my system is acting like it suddenly lacks power supply and

when it suddenly works, it tells me that windows power supply was not

proper or something and then asks me if I want to start in normal mode

or not.

May be the problem is in loose cards or wires.

I've gotta try putting everything in tighter.
