Slang Meanings.

Thought it would be fun to have a thread with Slang Terms,from different Countries,so we understand each other,better.Feel free to contribute,however let's not get too rude.:)

I will start off with a few from OZ,the real Queens English.:D

 

Ankle Biter......Young child.

Maggott Bag.....Ozzy meat pie.

Chew and spew....Chinese Food.

A.R.S.E. Wipe......Your Boss.

Blow In.....Stranger in town.

Butt Floss.....G-String.

Chunder.....Throw up.

Drink with the flies...Drink alone.

****ed as a Parrot....Real Drunk.

I must admit that I often times have problems with the slang.

The first time I said to Maynard "A pony calls" he said huh?

Much as I hate cockney rhyming slang I have to quote it on this occasion.

Pony and Trap = A toilet visitation.

Need I say more?

 

A Growler is a Meat Pie.

The Dogs Bollocks is something superior and excellent, eg, "Last night was the dog bollocks" or "I saw a new car I want today it was the dogs bollocks".

Snap is food.

A "Butty" is a sandwich.

Skint, Hearts of Oak and Silver Sick means to be without money.

"Up the Duff" means pregnancy.

A "Tart" is a woman of dubious honour.

That's Maritimer slang for "What are you talking about?"

 

There's also "By (not to be confused with "B'y") the Lahrd dyin'."

 

That one's for "I swear to God."

dog= a friendly term among guys to greet each other as in "Yo dog"

my bad = my mistake

tight= a close friendship

crunk= stoned and really drunk

fo' shizzle = for sure

Those are online abbreviations, kind of a sort of slang.

 

(Oh, and for the FGI one, I was actually part of the discussion that originated that particular abbreviation. It started with "We need some quick way to tell these lazy *expletive deleted* to use Google and leave us alone.")

As a radio ham and gadget man - like most gadgies I never read the manual until packing the thing up ready to return it.

A little further north in the UK from Wolfey we have Co. Durham - God's little Acre.

A meat pie is known under (presumably) geordie rhyme and slang - a Scabby Eye! - A Growler is something competely different! politely known as a Lady Garden

Same here, somethimes called The Mutt's Nuts - but basically the same

 

Snap is food.

 

Bait is food - like snap derived from the Miners. Barnsley/Yorks & Durham were traditional mining strongholds - now tragically gone. Baitbox = Snap tin = lunchbox (insert Linford Christie joke here).

 

A "Butty" is a sandwich.

 

A Sarnie up here - occasionally a Sanga or banjo - as in a grit big bacon banjo (I have weird mates!)

 

Skint, Hearts of Oak and Silver Sick means to be without money.

 

Borasic means skint, bones of me **** etc.

 

"Up the Duff" means pregnancy.

 

Bun in the oven, up the stick,

 

A "Tart" is a woman of dubious honour.

 

Slapper/bint/ bewer (sp?)
