User Accounts Issue

Two instances of logging onto my computer has started happening:

1) I had Administrator and only Guest (Guest Off) and then all of a sudden

another user account appeared all without passwords.

2) The I booted up and this time the Administrator was gone leaving this

other user account and only Guest (Guest Off) all without passwords.

All of this disrupted my ability to log on to the administrator side of the

computer rendering the computer useless as none of my administrator side

programs appeared.

I went throught every possible step to recover this issue, except System

Restore in hopes of finding another solution.

Lastly this is XP Professional version/ SP2 and also I thought under normal

circumstances you could not remove or delete the administrator account.

Any help welcomed - TIA/Daddio

Have another look - it is not possible to delete the administrator account.

Re: User Accounts Issue

What is the name on the other account? If its ASP.NET this account is

created when you install the .NET Framework.

Additionally, when another user account is created, besides the

Administrator and Guest accounts, the Administrator account is automatically

hidden, not deleted. And as you can see, its a bad idea to run using the

built-in Administrator account for day to day use. If something happens to

the user profile and it can't be logged on, you're screwed.

For XP Pro: Press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the Welcome Screen, with no other

users logged on. You'll get the older logon dialog. Enter Administrator

and any password that you have set for that account.

To enable the Administrator account on the new Windows XP logon screen in

Windows XP Pro, visit my web site, http://www.dougknox.com and go to the Windows XP

Utilities section. Follow the link for Enable Administrator Account ......

This small VB application will make the registry change necessary for the

Administrator account to be available on the Welcome Screen. If you prefer

to do it manually, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows

NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList\

Note: There is a space between Windows and NT in the above Key.

Add the Administrator account if necessary and/or change the Administrator

value to 1

For XP Home, you can only log into the built in Administrator account in

Safe Mode, so the fixes above will be of little use.
