Guest Lester Stiefel Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 In updating this evening, there was an update to the drivers for Sound Blaster Xfi Extreme Audio, which I retrieved from the site at MS update. This update caused a corruption in the msvcrt module and directshow - an unrecoverable update. I now have to reinstall XP windows. I WILL NEVER TRUST MSUPDATE FOR ANY UPDATES TO HARDWARE!!! -- Lester Stiefel Visit Family Radio Today http://www.familyradio.com/

If any files are damaged or missing, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards so damaged files will be replaced. -- Joe =o)
Guest Gerry Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Re: Beware of SB x-fi update Elmo To follow your suggestion you need a Windows XP CD post SP2 or a slipstreamed version of your original pre SP2 CD and the SP2 update. http://www.5starsupport.com/tutorial/xp-recovery-cd.htm -- Hope this helps. You should be able to roll the driver back to the previous version through the hardware manager (While holding the windows key down, press the [Pause/Break] key. Select the hardware tab and then 'device manager' Look for your sound card, right click and select 'properties', and then the 'drivers' tab. The option to roll back is there.
