Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I'll be perfectly honest here guys I think Loise should obtain a bought copy of XP Service Pack 2 and do a clean install from scratch. We are all over the place on this. Quote
louisek Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 You're probably right, I will look into buying one on the net later. Thanks for all your help, Will let you know how I get on. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I would Loise, just make sure it's a reputable site and not some dodgy sleezeball on ebay ok. Come back here and we'll run you through installing it if you want. Thank you for the donation by the way if it's still on offer. Quote
louisek Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 There will be a donation as I said, (promise) will get a disc then ask for help if that's ok, Thanks again Louise Quote

We are all over the place on this. That's what I was getting to and why I wanted to know the series of the emachines. Problem is, I know of no emachines that has a recovery partition, they all come with recovery cd's. My suggestion is to call emachines support and order the recovery disks. That's much cheaper and easier than an XP retail cd, Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Ok Loise but try and see if there are any more sets of numbers on the machine that could indicate the series for us. Quote

No there aren't have had a look on their website but not listed. Have noticed some for sale on auction sites (not gonna buy one just being nosey) with similar model numbers, eg emachines and then the number but no letter. Thanks again guys, Louise Quote
louisek Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 installed xp, now monitor problems Hi, I installed an xp cd as recommended by guys, and now the monitor isn't working properly. I have looked on the device manager, and I can't see a monitor on there! I have been on a drivers website and downloaded the driver I need, but not too sure now how I can go about this as there is no monitor showing. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance Quote
Seth Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 You probably need the "Display Adapter" driver. Please download "Everest" from here (ignore the recommended download) |MG| EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 Run the program and it will show the system devices. Post the log it creates in your next reply. Reagarding the driver you downloaded, you might just have to double left click on the driver to install it, or you might have to right click on it and choose "Extract". Seth Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Hi Louise. The monitor isn't working right or showing up in Device Manager as you'll note "Other Devices" in the log show the video card as not being installed (no driver), nor is the audio card and a few other devices. Problem is, Emachine's no longer provides drivers for your computer. In such a case a tech would use Everest to find the model number of the main system board, then go to mainboard's web site for the drivers, or directly look at the main system board (motherboard) to find it's model number. Everest shows the devices as not being installed, but does not list the needed model number. Run Everest again and choose the "Motherboard" tab. What is the motherboard's model number? Seth Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Continued from my previous post: Another option we can explore is to go to Window's Update (as you should have net access), choose the Custom option, and see what drivers Window's has forr your hardware. louisek Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 seth, can you point me in the right direction, I cannot see the motherboard tab on the page as the monitor isn't clear enough. Where do I find the motherboard number? Sorry can't see it anywhere. Quote
Seth Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 As soon as you run Everest, you'll see a list of items near the top left, and icons to the right. "Motherboard" is in both the list and the icons. Another option is go to the Window's update site, choose Custom, and install any hardware drivers it requests. I also found this: Emachines Imperial-GL Driver Summary You'll need to sign up to get the driver, but also if you type in emachines 270 in the search, you'll probably find other needed drivers. louisek Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 seth, Thanks so much, the link for the emachines worked a treat. I honestly can't thank you enough, and you've made one 8yr old boy really happy. I had really started to get disheartened with this pc, and was at one point today just going to buy a new one after spending hours on end trying to fix it (as a novice it's really hard)!! Once again, thanks enormously, and will as promised make a donation to your fantastic site. Louise :D Quote
