Guest benp84@gmail.com Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I started installing Windows XP last night. I let the installer format my new 250 GB hard drive overnight. In the morning I find it is installing and has had an error copying some file. I tell it to continue anyway and when it finishes, it restarts and tells me it can't boot from the hard disk. I decide to reboot from the CD and install again but now it says my hard drive is only 131 GB (down from 233 GB binary). Anyone know where all that space went? Thanks.

If so, this is a limitation of XP. SP1 corrects this, but you will need to use a 3rd party partition management tool such as BootIt Next Generation, Partition Magic or similar to resize the partition after SP1 is installed. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303013 -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows Media Center\Windows Powered Smart Display\Security Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Per user Group Policy Restrictions for XP Home and XP Pro http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_securityconsole.htm -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Google "slipstream XP" and "autostreamer", and download the entire SP2 file. HTH -pk
