Guest IMAGEREP Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Hi Kelly (my guess you'll be answering this question) I read your rely to Mike on 7/29/07 (post name: Computer wants to dskdsk on boot). That was my original problem as well as each time I restarted my PC, it would automatically chkdsk my external USB drive. I read through ALL the info, performed the task as well as checked the registry (did not have to change anything). The auto chkdsk is not resolved and boot up goes right to windows. ANOTHER PROBLEM: Keep in mind, it's my external drive I'm working on. I performed Disk Clean-up as usual before I run defrag. did that, no problem. I then go to Defrag and select my external drive. I get an Error message on the screen: "Disk Defragmenter has detected that chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume external HD (F). Please run chkdsk /f" I ran fsutil dirty query again only to get a response it's still dirty! In CMD, I tried to run 'chkdsk /f' as suggested in the error msg, but I get a msg: "Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPEN HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)" I choose 'N' as not being sure what to do! Bottom line - what do I need to do to get Defrag back working? Thank you in advance in taking the time reading my problem. Steve

It's quite probably referring to something like System Restore monitoring the drive. This isn't a problem.
