Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and click on Download Hijack This Installer and save it to your desktop.

• Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis.
  
• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  
• Click on Install.
  
• It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  
• Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply.
  

Notes:

Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.

Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should.

The log doesn't show any infections.

 

As soon as you turn on the computer, start tapping F8 and a start menu will appear. Use the arrow keys and choose "Safe Mode With Networking". Does the computer crash in that mode?

will try next time it goes off. this problem is very random i.e the pc was on for a few hours this morning before it crashed so may be quite difficult to say ?

When you say "crash", do you mean the computer locks up or it restarts?

you may just need to reinstall windows Lee - do you have another HDD that you can install an OS to?

Lockups are most often caused by ram and software problems.

 

If you have more than one stick of ram, test out the system with only one at a time.
