Seth Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 That's good news. 1) You still MUST remove AVG from Add/Remove programs. It will conflict with Avast and slow down the laptop. 2) Did you run the chkdsk /f ? 3) Is the sound distorted when you play an audio cd, music stored on the computer, or all three? Given that it's fairly impossible to damage laptop speakers and the audio is fine with headphones, I suspect that the amplifier circuit for the speakers is defective. This is a long shot: Right click on "My Computer" and choose Manage>Device Manager. Click on the plus sign beside "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers". You will an entry called something like "Audio Controller". Right click on it and choose Uninstall. When it's uninstalled, right click on any entry and choose "Scan for Hardware Changes". Window's will then find the audio controller and reinstall it. Now test the sound. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Guest Wolfeymole Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Good Morning. Avg is not to be found in the add and remove programmes! AVG may not be found in Add/Remove Chajun but there are still remnants of it in your system. Run a Search for files and folders and type AVG, delete all instances of it and submit a new log. Make sure you tick Look in hidden files and folders also. Quote

chajun Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 Ok thanks. Can you tell me is it possible to backup the contents of my laptop to a CD/RW 700mb or would suggest an alternative method. Quote
RandyL Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 You can back up files but not programs to a CD. This includes the Windows Address Book if you used the Export function. Programs have to be installed. Not just copied to a new machine. Of course if you have a lot of files like pictures or audio files you might need to use more then one CD. Backing up files like text, audio, pictures or an address book on a regular basis is always a good idea. A CD is one method and is inexpensive. An internal or external hard drive is another option. I could add more options but for now concentrate on your main issue and backup your most important files to a CD. Quote We are all members helping other members. Seth Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Hi Chajun. Well you're almost finished as far as the tune up goes. Run HijackThis again and choose "Scan Only". Put a check on these entries only: O2 - BHO: Symantec Intrusion Prevention - {6D53EC84-6AAE-4787-AEEE-F4628F01010C} - (no file) O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [AVG7_Run] C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgw.exe /RUNONCE (User 'LOCAL SERVICE') O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [AVG7_Run] C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgw.exe /RUNONCE (User 'NETWORK SERVICE') O23 - Service: AVG7 Alert Manager Server (Avg7Alrt) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe (file missing) O23 - Service: AVG7 Update Service (Avg7UpdSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe (file missing) Now click on "Fix Checked" and restart the computer when HijackThis finishes. For the sound card reinstallation, the one you want is "Realtek AC 97 Audio". Did you run the chkdsk /f? Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
