Hi there.

I am having a very big problem connecting to the internet via my Belkin router.

One morning it was fine i logged off like normal and went to work, got home and now it just says unidentified network- local only.

I have 3 other devices going though the router they are:

Laptop- wireless

Nintendo Wii- wireless

Playstation 3 - wired

They are all connecting fine.

I tried to plug my ethernet cable directly into my modem but still no luck.

at the moment i am connecting though my modem via USB.

I have uninstalled norten anti-virus

Restored my pc to factory settings

spent hours on the phone to belkin, who said it is a issue with my tcp/ip stack. Now i only got the pc a month ago so i thought i would ring my manufactuer. they told me it is a software issue and i had to call their tech support team, which at £1 a min i declined.

Wondered is i get get some help here. if you need any addtional info just ask me thank you

Hi

Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

Go to Start then Run type cmd and press enter

In that DOS-like screen type ipconfig /all and enter.

Post back what it says there.

Also just check this:

Go to Control Panel and doubleclick Network Connections

Rightclick on Local Area Connection and select Properties

Click on TCP/IP and click on Properties

Make sure it is on Automatic

Looks like this is common on Vista Premium.

Do you also use Norton Antivirus?

I'll do some more research. The network specialist's will also be online shortly.

Did you use the Norton Removal Tool or Add/Remove Programs to uninstall it?

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

I see in some cases it was Norton related and other cases it is to do with the User Account Control(UAC) in Vista but all of them are different.

There's the problem. If you tried this using the wireless connection, try it with a know good Ethernet cable connected to the router.

by the way - did you power down the router for 15 seconds or so? Might be worth a try.

You're doing the right things, but for some reason your Vista machine and router are no longer communicating. Did you restart the computer?

Long shot - Try right clicking on My Computer, go to Properties, Device Manager - make sure there are no red or yellow error marks associated with any device. Also check to see that your wireless and wired network connections are listed in there.
