TS hardware requirements for testing application

I would like to set up and test my Access app running over the Internet using

Terminal Services. I need some beginner help on the hardware and operating

system I will need to do these tests. Could someone check my assumptions and

let me know if I am on the right track?

As I understand it:

- I will need a server desktop or laptop with MS Server 2000 or 2003

installed on it. Both come with up to 5 CAL licenses for running TS.

- I already have a high speed internet connection

- I will need a workstation running XP Pro. XP Pro will include the

capability to connect to a server running TS. As I understand it, XP Home

does not.

My goal is to allow my Access app to be run from the browser (IE) over the

Internet. Can anyone give me any additional advice on this setup, or tell me

if I am missing something to allow me to start testing.

Many thanks,

Mark

You do not get 5 licenses for TS. You get 5 Windows CAL's, two

different think. How many users are you planning on running your app?

Most likely a desktop/laptop (laptop???) will not have enough power to

support your users.

Re: TS hardware requirements for testing application

Jeff,

My first step is to run some tests of my app in my office and get familiar

with the setup and operation of Server 2000 or 2003. So my initial need is

for one remote user over the Internet running in a browser. For that, I

would like to put together the least expensive system possible.

My app will eventually be run on my client's equipment, which will vary by

client (it is now running on Local area networks) and # of users will also

vary.

I thought my test setup would be done using a desktop with Server 2000 or

2003 installed. I would think any computer that can run IE would run the app

in that browser, so I planned to use my laptop for the client connecting to

TS on the server.

Appreciate any advice you can give,

Mark
