Disk Management Reformat Question

Recommended Posts

I want to reformat a USB external disk from FAT32 to NTFS. I have never

used the disk management tool before. When I look at this disk it shows

110GB FAT32 with a drive letter. It also shows a 3GB area marked

unallocated with no file system listed. The right click menu for this only

gives the option for a new partition. Apparently I can originally only

reformat the 110GB area. From what I can guess, after this reformat, I can

extend the partition or something.

Can someone please give me step-by-step instructions to reformat the whole

disk to NTFS.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Disk Management Reformat Question

When you right click in Disk Management do you have an option to either:

Delete Logical drive or Delete Partition.

If you have either of these options then delete the logical drives or

partitions first, you should then have all the drive space as unallocated.

Then create the new partition and format.

I have 'delete partion' for the 110GB lettered drive.

So this will mean that if I delete the 110GB partition, I will see a 113GB

(110 + 3) unallocated area that I will then be able to format?

Well, that was the question I was going to ask before I decided to go ahead

and give it a try. I did and everything worked out fine.
