Hi PCR,

I even wonder if he knows that SPS means "Self Praise Stinks!!" He

calls himself *thanatoid*. Maybe he should really spell it another way. Oh,

well, that is my opinion. The word I am thinking of starts with an *h* and

it leaves out the *t*. I hope you can figure out what I mean, even though it

is spelled way different. If you cannot figure it out, let me know and I

will email you. I am tired and I have lost all patience for anyone's bull.

I have been telling people face to face what I think of their bull

lately. I wonder if he is married and has children. Those are who I feel

sorry for if he behaves like that to them.

That is just a display-- no extract was done.

You may stop, & just report what you saw, or...

(d) IF you get that, then your Win98_49.cab is fine. So, do this EXTRACT...

"EXTRACT /L C:\Progra~1\Common~1\Micros~1\Statio~1 C:\Options\Cabs\Win98_49.cab Tiki.htm"

Copy everything between the quotes (but not the quotes) & past it to the DOS screen with that 3rd button. That should be ONE line with THREE spaces: one after "EXTRACT", one after "Statio~1" & one after Win98_49.cab.

MAKE SURE EVERYTHING BETWEEN THE QUOTES IS ON THE DOS LINE, or you might extract the WHOLE cab, instead of just "Tiki.htm"! No good!

That was the SFN (Short File Name) for...

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery

(e) Open Explorer to that folder, & rename "Tiki.htm" to "Tiki Lounge.htm".

That should do it!

Re: Trying to post, no success.

Hi Everyone that tried to help with this problem,

I could not get it straightened out and it was becoming too time

consuming. I have decided on going back to the last backup I did with Drive

Image. This is the Drive Image program that came with the computer. I will

only have to get a few of the items that I entered after that last backup.

The drive Image that I have only allows one backup besides the Factory

backup. I will put the stuff on my thumb drive and then reinstall the stuff

from that. I will then put the 3 troublesome websites that may be giving me

pop ups in the restricted zone. They are, lop, drive cleaner and error sure.

The last two are the ones that wanted to download to my computer. The lop

one was in my registry history. How it got there I think I know. I told

about an incident a couple of years ago that may have caused it. I will

come back and tell how things go. I will also come back and ask more about

*HiJackThis*.

Thank you everyone that helped me. Yes, you did help. I know of more

programs that I can use in the future. I always learn from this group. God

bless all of you.

BEFORE you restore the Drive Image, finish the scans I recommended (at

Aumha.org) and then run HijackThis.

Ignore the thanaturd, ignore even PCR, who while well-intentioned, tends to

drag threads to incomprehensible places, pursuing increasingly ridiculous

and irrelevant details. Just do the scans I recommended and finish with

HijackThis, post the log to an appropriate forum and see what the experts

say.

You know what they'll say, "You have a few things we need to get rid of". They'll

walk it through in terms that can be followed like a swiss watch works. When the PC

is all clean they'll give congratulations and provide info on how to stay clean. All

the time being cordial to with the user.

There is up-to-no-good installed on the PC:

The first name mentioned is from 2003

The company responsible for lop.com is C2Media LTD located in The United Kingdom

The second one is a popup maleware.

The third one got me to a nasty search result. I wound up at a site which popped

up a window stating that if my computer has been sluggish I may have a virus, adware,

etc. Closed the window and it tried it's damnest to scan my system and install

"Install171[1].exe. NAV blocked it and scooped it into the sht bucket.

Re: Trying to post, no success.

Hi Brian,

Well, I did the backup and now the computer is working better. I can

tell you how the http://www.lop.com got downloaded. I think I told the story back

in 2003. I would rather not go into it again now. I had just found it in the

register about a week an a half ago when I was looking in the Registry. At

this time I do not remember what it was. I took it out of the Registry. It

was under History in the registry. The next 2 are: http://www.errorsafe.com Crappy

software they want you to download. They try to look like an official

Internet Explorer error. First they put a pornographic picture of girls then

this window comes up with something like ( It looks like you have been

visiting adult sites you need to download registry cleaner). If you try to

get it off by clicking close another window shows up with all the normal

buttons grayed out. It has only one button which says OK I had to use

ctrl-Alt-Delete to get rid of it. The other one http://www.drivecleaner.com is also

Crappy software the same routine but it tells you need drive cleaner. Then

when you use the 3 finger salute, you lose some of the stuff in your Systray

Such as your keyboard. You have to restart or your computer will act crazy

also. After you restart the computer everything starts to work like it

should.

I would like to know more about the HiJack This program.

Hi Gary,

Sorry, I did not get the message until after I did the Drive Image

backup. I did not have to go back to the Factory backup. I did the most

recent one I made on July 24th. It worked out OK. No problems with it.

No, I don't let the t------ bother me. I just thought I would tell him

to pay complete attention to the whole problem. He gives bad advice because

he WILL NOT read the all the posts concerning the problem. Did you read both

his posts? He did not reply to my post I made on 8/2/07 10:13AM. Did you

read it? Nah, he must be very, very, very bitter person. He needed to be

told the facts of life.

Back to the HiJack This, do you have to download it, or do you just

use it like the *Virus Total*?

I am still trying to figure out the Aumha.org thing.

Copy HJT to it's own folder, this is where the log files will be saved. Run HJT in

Normal Mode.

Do not remove anything with it until you get advice on what to remove, HJThis will

list many apps that are needed along with the bad ones. Removing items listed

hap-hazardly without knowing what they are can/will create a royal mess. Read the

quick start here on how to create a log file that can be copied/pasted into a forum

that can provide assistance on removal of unwanted pests.

spyware/hijacker removal. Please read any sticky notes for proper posting which are
