No Open/Run Option When Downloading

When downloading an EXE file in IE, there is no longer an option to

open or run the EXE file. The only option is to Save or Cancel. This

seems to happen in both IE 6 and IE 7, so it is probably related to a

security setting. I would like to be prompted to Open/Run like

before. What setting/option controls this?

Open Windows Explorer, click Tools >> Folder Options >> File Type Tab.

Scroll down to the .exe file and highlight it then click on Advanced Button

then click on Edit, check this check box:

[ ] Confirm open after download.

Well, the issue isn't that the "prompt" doesn't show up... but more

that there is no Run or Open option on the dialogue (only shows Save

and Cancel). EXE is obviously a special file type and does not even

show under Tools > Folder Options > File Type tab. So, while your

solution applies to most file types, it does not apply to EXE file

types. This has only recently been happening on various computers, so

I am assuming that it has something to do with a security update or

policy setting.

Hi Chris,

Yes, try to check the GPO and see the settings for these machines.

Hey, here's the fix to the problem... Within Internet Explorer, click

Tools, then Internet Options. Click on the Advanced Tab, and make

sure the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" (in the Security

section) option is UNCHECKED.
