Guest Richard Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 USP Auto Install? Is there any way that USB devices can be set to install automatically? When I plug in a wired mouse and select to install in device manager the hardware installs no problem. Just wondered if there was a way to auto install USB?? Thanks.

All USB item's that I've ever installed (recently, like within the limits of my pre-Alzheimer's memory) have installed automatically.
Guest dobey Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Re: USP Auto Install? Depending on the device. If the drivers are already on the PC it will be installed automatically. If it is some new device like a late model printer, chances are Windows won't know what it is. Though last time I looked at a printer it required me to install drivers first before I event attempted to plug it in. With mice Windows has a generic driver it will install, so it will work, but if your mouse has some special feature, extra buttons etc. they might not work, (unless of course the driver is included with windows). I don't recall ever having to direct Windows to install a mouse. Usually it will detect the device and install it. Most external drives will be installed automatically. How many different USB devices are you planning on using. Some devices such as mobile phones might install other components that require interaction, even if the drivers are on the system. The only time that it may appear not to install is if a previous attempt has been made which failed for some reason.
