Seth Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Not that I want to, but I'm starting to get a lot of Vista calls and therefore need to know more about it. A few months ago, I experimented with Vista for about a week. All in all, I found just what my Vista customer's say, "It's harder to do stuff compared to XP". I was prompted to dive in after just receiving my second call today from a frustrated Vista owner that wants to go back to XP. My shop receives about 10 similar calls each week. Customer's don't realize the large cost involved in such a task, as they would have to pay for XP and a large amount of labor. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Seth Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 Well the move is over. Bye XP. Vista had all the drivers other than my usb wireless and printer. I installed those manually without issue. I disabled the UAC, Defender, Sidebar, Automatic Updates, Indexing Service, and Automatic Defrag. Installed SAS, MB, Open Office, Firefox, and a bunch of other programs without issue as well. Seth Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 Are you running SP1 Randy? If so, notice any difference with it? Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here If Free PC Help has helped you then please consider a donation. Click here
RandyL Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I sure am but can't say as if I noticed any difference. Unless that's what broke my nvidia control panel. But I really don't know when that happened. Large file transfers might be a little better unless it's my imagination. If you do install SP1 you have plenty of time for a long dinner while it's installing. I'm not kidding. Have a read from Microsoft. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. shrimply Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Well I can't wait to start asking questions to use you new found knowledge, I do really like vista but I think I'm more or less alone on that one. Sp1 does take a long time to install, only differences I noticed were that both ready boost and the internet seem a lot more stable. RandyL Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Well let's learn together and share shrimply. I spent a huge amount of time customizing and tweaking Vista. I did finally get it where I like it. Now that seth has it too we should be able to put our heads together and rock and roll. So let's do it. Share our tips and pass them on. Post away. Quote We are all members helping other members. Seth Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 Going to run XP in a virtual mode along side of Vista. That way if I have an XP suggestion for a poster in which I can't remember the exact gui or cmd path, I can quickly switch over to XP to check it out. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Seth Posted June 11, 2008 Author Posted June 11, 2008 I tweaked out all that I found annoying. Other than that, it's mostly a matter of getting used to doing the same thing in a different manner:D Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. RandyL Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I might say seth that you will find some ways of doing the same thing WAY different. I'll give you an example. Change your System Restore size. It can be done but good luck. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else.
