flockers Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 One day while playing an MMORPG called "2moons" a friend came over and saw that the game was lagging quite a bit. He suggested that it was the ram (minimum needed for game 512mb, I had 768 at the time) So I upgraded to 2GB. I havent seem much of a difference in lag. Same lag I've always had in crowded areas. I've seen videos where players breeze through crowded areas while recording with no lag whatsoever. What do they have that I don't? I'm not sure on how to get all of my system specs BTW. If someone could tell me I'd appreciate it. Quote
Seth Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Flockers. Software manufacturers have to account for the fact that most home computers run very poorly due to lack of proper maintenance. As such, you can usually get away with half the recommended ram provided that you have a clean and lean running system. I suspect that you do not, and that's why the ram upgrade produced no speed increase. We can use a program called HijackThis that will show what's running on your computer: Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and click on Download Hijack This Installer and save it to your desktop. Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis . Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply. Notes: Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Goku Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I am not much experienced in these matters Flockster but I think that what you needed was a bit more of Video RAM that is to say that you needed to upgrade your Graphics Card. You already had more than enough RAM needed to run the game previously, so upgrading the RAM wouldn't lift the lag. You must have experienced a performance boost due to it but there might not have been any difference in your gaming experience. So, to overcome this lagging, you need to upgrade your graphics card. Lets see what the experts have got to say on it. :) -- Goku Quote
Seth Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 A new video card may be a possibility Goku, but we'll look at a software issue first. Plus, with all that extra ram, a good chunk can be allocated to the video card from within the bios:) Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. RandyL Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Hi flockers; First of all look at this support page on lag from their site. Wikipedia says these are the minimum requirements. 1 GHz CPU 512 MB RAM GeForce MX Video card Sound card DirectX 9.0c or above Broadband Internet Connection Typically I would suspect double the RAM and a much faster processor is needed for these type of games. I don't know about the video card. Run this program to help you figure out what you have. SIW Quote We are all members helping other members.
