Guest ind_123 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 The IDE drive is from a laptop and runs with the USB cable power. I can hear the drive running when I hook it up. It was working on the laptop before. I have seen the Disk management but nothing there. The problem seems to be that the windows fails to install the new hardware. It gives me message that recognised "USB-IDE" then as "USB Mass Storage " then it pops up saying "Failed to install new hardware" reason being that device is not recognised. I dont know how to solve it.
Guest goodpix Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 RE: USB Mass Storage problem I wanted to back up a significant block of data files to a Maxtor 80gb USB drive and did the following to get Windows 98SE to see the drive: I used a USBReady application to confirm the machine hardware and software were appropriately configured. Then, I went to the Maxtor (now Seagate) web site to download drivers for the external USB drive not supported by the 98SE installation. I was directed to install them and reboot the machine with the external USB drive attached. All proceeded as promised. Good luck!
