I have two domain controllers. If one of them is switched off, the other

does not seem to take over. What could be wrong?

RE: Domain not available

In Windows 2000 and 2003, PDC and BDC doesn't exist anymore but there is 5

roles (FSMO Roles) that are managed by a DC. By default, the first DC of the

forest and domain manage all roles.

2 roles are for the forest

3 roles for the domain

Here you can find more informations about it.

Re: Domain not available

To have windows domain redundancy, you should have 2 DCs with the global catalog role. Also make sure you have two DNS server for the redundancy. This post may help too,
