I've just upgraded (again) to IE7 from IE6. I just don't like the look of IE7 - i.e. the layout. I also miss the tab to click on email as I always read them using this method. Yes I know they can be added, but doesn't seem "right" - unless I did it wring.

My question(s) Is there much difference between 6 & 7 (I assume it is better but how & why)

Can I make IE7 look like IE6 - if so how? (traditional look) and especially can I have the email icon more prominent?

Finally, I note a lot of people at work and on various forums prefer Firefox. When I ask them they all say it is better - though nobody can ever elaborate why. I suspect it is merely an anti-Microsoft stance, but I don't know. Anyone care to give a brief overview of pro's and cons?

Thanks

Steve

You are in luck, Steve. The question has been asked many times before and therefore has many benchmark tests and reviews dedicated entirely to it.

Why Firefox Beats Internet Explorer

Or better yet, see here.

Internet Explorer 7 vs. Firefox 2

To explain briefly, most people prefer Firefox over Internet Explorer because:

1) Its fast.

2) Its efficient.

3) Its secure.

4) Its customizable.

5) Its free (not unlike Internet Explorer 7 where all depends on your passing WGA tests).

6) And lastly because it is not made by Microsoft (this statement alone stimulates most people out there to try it).

Now, I think you are ready to make your own decision. :)

I stuck using my dads PC and have been forbidden to download anything so am stuck using IE7 so far I got quite a long list of things I miss about firefox, some may be available on IE7 though.

It automatically checks you spelling anywhere you type

You can duplicate entire tabs and their history

You can undo a closed tab

It restores your session each time and remembers everything, even a half typed reply

Ad-block plus removes pretty much all the adverts on forums

And its completely customizable

Ironically I have the opposite problem to you Shrimply in that I have full reign/final say in both desktop and laptops here. I've no problem trying or even switching to Firefox, but my dad hates change - even IE7 would freak him lol.

Back to my original questions. If I change to IE7 is there a way to add the mail icon to the toolbar? - I already added it to the drowdown box?

If I was to add Firefox, do I just add it, or remove IE? - also can I continue to use Outlook Express and does it need to be configured?

IE7 no longer requires the WGA.

WGA is an abbreaviated form for Windows Genuine Advantage. This is a perk enjoyed only by genuine Windows users so that Windows updates and softwares cannot be enjoyed by pirated copy users. I don't know if Internet Explorer 7 still requires it or not but when I tried it previously, it did check for WGA. :)
