masplin Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 I did check that. apart from Window defender updates there was only on update since the problem started . I uninstalled and it made no difference so I reinstalled it. Quote
masplin Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Is this more for finding error when you are writing Javascript? I haven't read it in detail but one of the links went thorugh to Regcure which when i can it says i have a host of problems. I use ccleaner to clean my registry so is it worth spending $30 buying regcure to see if any of the issues it has found are the problem. I'm a bit sceptical because I know they laways say you have problems in order to get you to buy it!!! Quote

I have deleted the post and will try to search for some another article. By the way, do not use any registry cleaners or scans mentioned on the site. They could be dangerous and could make your system go awry at the very least. Hold on there, we will find some solution soon. :) -- Goku Quote

Here are two articles that extensively list the problems and bugs one might experience while using Internet Explorer 7. See if the cap fits you or not. :) Known issues - Internet Explorer 7 Release Notes for Internet Explorer 7 I sincerely hope, this time you do get it fixed. Good Luck. :) -- Goku Quote
masplin Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Been through al lof thsoe and don't see anything we haven't tried and is applicable. For a laugh I tried downlaoding the IE8 Beta as you can't uninstall IE7 from Vista, but made no difference. Looking in the C/program files/internet explorer folder none of the files has a modified date less than 2 months. I am utterly baffled. Guess i stick with Firefox and try and work around the application issues and hope it goes away as mysteriously as it started. If not them maybe i have to go for a full system reset. Quote

Well, then as a last resort, can you please reinstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta from a standalone version like the one available here. The Beta 8 version of it is actually the final version of Internet Explorer 7 and therefore might help in correcting some or any of the problems. Please try and see if a reinstall changes anything or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku Quote
masplin Posted June 11, 2008 Author Posted June 11, 2008 Is that different from the one I downloaded from the microsoft site? Quote
Goku Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Is that different from the one I downloaded from the microsoft site? I do not think so but there is no harm in downloading it again. Please redownload it from the site I provided just to double-check and confirm that it is not due to a faulty installation. :) -- Goku Quote
roleli Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 (edited) Please try the following - Close Internet Explorer and other programs - Go to Start -> Run -> regsvr32 jscript.dll - Restart Internet Explorer - Check to ensure that scripting is enabled. Go to tools -> secutity -> custom level Check to ensure under "Scripting" that active scripted is set/checked to enable That should solve the problem Edited November 19, 2008 by roleli Quote
masplin Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 Solved by an in place re install of Vista Thanks for the suggestion, but eventually decided the only course was a re install of Vista. This was actually very straight forward as kept all my files. I found a very good step by step guide here Repair Install For Vista - Vista Forums I did back up all my data files , but worked perfectly and my Vista has been fine ever since. Quote
