Howdy,

I have a MSI P7N Diamond mobo with 4gb (4x 1Gb sticks) of Crucial Ballistix Tracer 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-8500 Memory.

When running CPU-Z, it tells me:

DRAM Frequency 400.0MHz

FSB: DRAM 2:3

also in SPD tab says Max bandwidth as PC2-6400 (400MHz)

Just wondering if this is incorrect/settings not optimum & how to correct it if so...

If more info needed about system just ask and I'll post asap.

Thanks in advance.

Right - this is not an easy one - look on your memory makers website and they will post the timings for your memory as its PC8500 should be running at 1066Mhz - if you have a 1066Mhz CPU you can either set the memory devider to 1:1 or manually change the RAM settings to 1066Mhz.

But in doing the latter you have to manually set the timings to what the website says and the DDR voltage too.

5-5-5-15 and 2.2 volts <<just checked on the site for you.

Thanks alot :)

In BIOS I've changed frequency to 1066MHz and manually changed the timings to:

CL 5

tRCD 5

tRP 5

tRAS 15

My DRAM Voltage is set to Auto and also greyed out (can't access it when hitting enter), I'm not sure how to get access to it..

CPU-Z now reads

FSB: DRAM = 1:2, with DRAM Freq at 533.3MHz.

But under SPD it still says Max Bandwidth is PC2-6400 (400MHz)?

EPP #1, #2 both says voltage is at 2.2V

JEDEC #1, #2 both says 1.8V

Should I leave DRAM Voltage on auto?

Thanks for the help..

Can you change the FSB RAM to 1:1? manually?

the voltages can only be set by manually doing the setup so the FSB and the multiplier etc - leave them all on auto and see if you can get the FSB RAM at 1:1

What CPU are you running?

putting the CPU: DRAM at 1:1 should make the memory run at the same speed as your processor which I would have thought is a 1066Mhz CPU-

if not return it to the 1:2 as the double data rate of DDR2 would be 1066 anyways - just wanted it to run at 1:1 so that its more stable.

1:2 is really for an older CPU thats all

I'm running a Kentsfield, Q6600 G0 (quad core, 2.4GHz), rated FSB at 1066MHz - found in another thread "The rated FSB speed set in the BIOS is the quad-pumped speed, so it is 4x the base FSB speed" guess this is why a 1:1 gives such a low freq for ram...

No, if you are running a

1:1 ratio it is CPU 1066 and RAM 1066

if its 1:2 its CPU 1066 and RAM 533

you are after 1:1 for the RAMS full speed - if you read my AW9D MAX and Q6600 thread it makes more sense
