Guest David S Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 We have a user who is having problems maximizing. When he minimizes any window or app, then tries to click on the corresponding icon on the taskbar to maximize it, it won't maximize. What he ends up doing is minimizing everything until he can get to the app he wants. We're running XPsp2. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as this user is my boss. Thanks!

Hi David, Clicking on the Task bar won't maximize a program, only bring it to the forefront. Does Alt-Tab allow you to get to it? Using the Windows key-D will minimize or return everything as it was. Does right clicking and using Restore work? -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. Delete NOSPAM from the email address after clicking Reply.

Are you sure Terry? I can minimize & maximize by clicking the tab for that page or program. I do not use the "Group similar taskbar buttons" option though (in case that might have something to do with it). ~Gary

Doing that only returns the window to its previous state. Of course if you have it maximized, it will return maximized. Test it yourself. I use many windows that aren't maximized and that is how it works. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. I've had the same thing; a window won't come to the front when it's selected on the Taskbar. When I then minimize the window in front, the "missing" window is there. It happens so seldom for me that I just ignore it and go on with what I was doing. You might try this: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 66. (r-h column) Prevent Programs from Stealing Focus - Undo -- Joe =o)
Guest David S Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Re: Windows won't maximize by clicking on the Taskbar icon Elmo is on the right track. I witnessed the issue first-hand with the user and it is mainly a focus issue. The cause seems to be Outlook. When Outlook is open, it seems to steal focus from anything else that is open. I checked the settings that were in the focus fix that Elmo posted, but the setting was already at 200000. "Elmo" wrote: > David S wrote: > > We have a user who is having problems maximizing.
