Guest sandra4453 Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 pdf files stopped working in IE7 and causes IE to shut down. Using Adobe Reader 7.1, tried updating to 8.1, tried uninstalling in control panel original version and neither one works. Can't uninstall adobe even when I uninstall all related programs first. Error message 1714...."older version can't be removed", "patch package couldn't be opened and verify that it exists". Tried cleaning everything with the msicuu2 (microsoft uninstaller) and with CC Cleanup. Tried deleting downloaded adobe files in program files, still nothing. Disabled most startup programs in msconfig to see if something may have been blocking this attempt and I still was not able to delete from control panel or update from adobe's website....same error message appears. Tried a system restore...nothing, disabled firewall and attempted again....still, no difference. I've installed a different pdf reader but not as effective/fast as adobe. Anyone know what I can do to solve this problem?

Adobe stuff gets more & more bloated over time. I avoid it whenever I can. Beyond that, try checking with Adobe support for help as this is their product.
